5 Second Rule

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the 5 Second Rule online game. By using the Service, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

Last updated: 8 May 2026

1. The Service

The 5 Second Rule game (the "Service") is a free, browser-based party game that lets users add players, choose categories, and play timed rounds in their browser. The Service is provided as-is and may evolve, change, or pause at any time.

2. Eligibility

You may use the Service if you are at least the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction (typically 13, 14, or 16 depending on local law). If you are below that age, please use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service in a lawful and respectful way. In particular, you agree not to:

  • Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm any person.
  • Use custom prompts to publish content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes the rights of others.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service in ways that interfere with normal use by others.
  • Use automated tools to scrape content at a rate that affects performance for other users.
  • Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person.

4. User-created content

The Service lets you create custom prompts and player names. This content is stored locally in your browser. You are responsible for the content you create and for ensuring it is appropriate for the people you play with. We do not moderate prompts that never leave your device.

If you choose to share custom prompts publicly, for example by exporting them and posting them online, you are solely responsible for that content.

5. Intellectual property

The 5 Second Rule game format is a category-based party game with mechanics that are widely played. The text, code, design, and original content on this site are owned by the operator of the Service or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

Trademarks and game-component trade dress associated with the physical "5 Second Rule" board game are the property of their respective owners. This Service is an independent online implementation of public party-game mechanics and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any board-game publisher.

You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial play. Reproducing the site's original written articles or design assets without permission is not permitted.

6. Third-party links and services

The Service may include links to third-party websites or rely on third-party services such as advertising networks and analytics providers. We are not responsible for the content or practices of those third parties. Their use of your information is governed by their own policies.

7. Advertising

The Service may display advertising. The presence of an advertisement is not an endorsement of the advertiser or its products. Advertisers are responsible for the content of their ads. See the Privacy Policy for more on how advertising works on this site.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any defects will be corrected.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of the Service will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, opportunity, or revenue arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of the Service and any affiliates from any claims, losses, or expenses arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may, at our discretion, suspend or limit access to the Service at any time, for any reason, including violations of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms occasionally. The "Last updated" date above shows when. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by applicable law in the jurisdiction in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence may apply in addition.

14. Contact

For questions about these Terms, see the contact page.
